A Clue to the Recovery of Authenticity: Military Sex Slave
Films of five survivors of the Japanese military “comfort women” system are projected onto a 3 × 2 m cotton screen. A chair places the viewer at eye level with the seated figure.
The five women look calmly toward the viewer against an empty background. They were filmed without speech or gestures directing a particular emotion, allowing each viewer to meet the person directly.
The chair used during filming was placed opposite the screen. Sitting in it, a viewer encounters the figure at the same eye level.
